"Singing Road" Built As Speed Deterrent

National Geographic is getting into the transportation business. The magazine TV Channel partnered with the New Mexico Department of Transportation on an experiment aimed at reducing speeding. National Geographic payed to pave a "singing road." When drivers go the posted speed limit of 45 mph and drive on the rumble strips, they'll be serenade with "America the Beautiful." The experiment is to see if the unique pavement will cause people to slow down to hear the song or keep them from falling asleep behind the wheel.
