State Planning To Spend Money To Make Money

You've heard the old saying 'You have to spend money to make money?' Well, that's kind of what the state is banking on in an effort to bring in federal funds for transportation. The Washington State Department of Transportation is planning to pay a four year $750,000 contract to a lobbyist firm and they're hoping it will pay off by bringing millions of dollars into the state for transportation infrastructure.

SRTC is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Spokane County. Urbanized areas with populations exceeding 50,000 people are required to have an MPO. SRTC was formed to address the county's transportation planning needs. It provides coordination in planning between the public, cities, small towns, the county, the state, transit providers, and tribes.
