City Looking For Ideas On How To Spend Traffic Calming Money

City of Spokane neighborhoods are beginning to work on ideas of how to spend money designated for traffic calming projects. The Traffic Calming program allows neighborhoods to apply for safety projects to address excessive vehicle speeds and safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The program has successfully funded nearly 57 total projects ranging from traffic circles and bump-outs to crosswalks and sidewalks. Funds for this program come from fines paid by people caught running lights by Photo Red cameras.

To help neighborhoods fill out applications, three Traffic Calming Workshops will be held in the following City Council Districts. You're invited and encouraged to attend the workshop that corresponds to your neighborhood:

  • District 1: January 28th, 6-7:30 p.m., Northeast Community Center (4001 N. Cook)
  • District 2: January 29th, 6-7:30 p.m., Wilson Elementary Library (911 W. 25th Ave.)
  • District 3: January 21st, 6-7:30 p.m., West Central Community Center (1603 N. Belt)
