* On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Newport Hwy. near its intersection with Westview Ave.will be reduced by one lane northbound so crews can install a water tap.
* Traffic signals at the intersection of Lincoln St. and 14th Avenue will not be operational until Aug. 14, while crews upgrade the signal standards. When the power’s out, everybody stops. Four-way stop signs are in place. Motorists should use caution and allow vehicles to take turns.
* Browne St. from Spokane Falls Blvd. to Main Ave. will have pedestrian and parking restrictions until August 20. Crews will doing underground utility work.
* Eighth Ave. from Sunset Blvd. to Government Way remains closed as part of the Fish Lake Trail project. The project is progressing. Crews have completed clearing and are installing the bridge fence.
* City Street Department crews are out:
o Crack sealing Howard St. from Boone to Indiana avenues.
o Repairing the following streets during working hours:
* Sprague Ave. from Freya to Havana streets—will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
* 37th Ave. from Freya to Ray streets—will be reduced by one lane on Monday and Tuesday. Flaggers will be in place.
* Repairing potholes. Call 625-7733 to report a pothole; please include the location and approximate size of the hole.

CONSTRUCTION – Businesses Remain Open
FREYA ST. BRIDGE
The Freya Street Bridge project is progressing. The bridge is being replaced and expected to reopen in the summer of 2010. This project will replace the two side-by-side bridges with a single structure going over the railroad lines just north of Broadway Ave. Freya St. will be closed from Trent to Alki avenues. Motorists will be detoured around the closure to Broadway Ave, Fancher Rd., and Trent Ave. Freya St. will remain open to local traffic, allowing access to the businesses along the project.
The $7 million project is being funded by Bridge Replacement Money, the Freight Mobility Street Improvement Board, and the City of Spokane.
MARKET STREET FROM GARLAND TO FRANCIS AVENUES
The project to rehabilitate Market St. from Garland to Francis avenues is progressing. The work also includes paving the following dirt streets, Rowan, Sanson, Everett, and Wabash avenues, from Market St. east to the railroad right-of-way. Market Street will be rehabilitated full-depth, curb-to-curb, existing curbs and sidewalks will be replaced, and pedestrian lighting and trees will be installed from Heroy to Columbia avenues. On Tuesday, Aug. 10, Haven St. is expected to reopen to motorists traveling southbound at Francis and Garland avenues. Market St. from Garland to Francis avenues remains closed. Motorists are detoured to Crestline St. at Garland and Francis avenues; Wellesley Ave. remains open to traffic; and local access is being maintained on Broad, Wabash, Olympic, Queen, Diamond, and Rowan avenues from Haven to Market streets.
The $5.6 million project is being funded by the10-Year Street Bond and state sources.
37th AVENUE FROM PERRY TO REGAL STREETS
The project to rehabilitate 37th Ave. from Perry to Regal streets is progressing. The project will rehabilitate 37th Ave. from Perry to Regal streets full-depth curb-to-curb, including installing new curbs and sidewalks from Crestline to Mt. Vernon streets and replacing water transmission and distribution mains. 37th Ave. from Perry to Regal streets is closed to traffic with local access only. Motorists are detoured to 29th Ave. to Grand Blvd. and then onto Hatch Rd. to 57th Ave. and then to Regal St.
The nearly $2 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond, Water Department, and Spokane Transit Authority.
FIVE MILE ROAD FROM AUSTIN TO LINCOLN ROADS
The Five Mile Rd. project is progressing, the keystone walls are complete, and the curbs are being installed. The project will widen and rebuild the street to 44 feet to include curbs and a continuous sidewalk on the west side, a 5-ft. bike lane north and shared-use bike lane south on Five Mile Rd. from Austin to Lincoln roads. Additionally, from Stratton Ave. to Lincoln Rd., trees, sewer and water lines, grass swales, a two-way left turn lane will be installed, and a truck climbing lane will be added from Austin Rd. to Stratton Ave. Five Mile Rd. from Austin Rd. to Alberta St. will have two northbound lanes and one southbound lane. Five Mile Rd. from Alberta St. to Lincoln Rd. has one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. Five Mile Rd. from Austin Rd. to Cochran St. is closed. The intersection of Lincoln and Five Mile roads has reopened to traffic. Motorists are detoured to Austin Rd. to Quamish Dr. and then onto Cascade Way and back to Five Mile Rd.
The $6.1 million project is being funded by state and federal sources, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Stimulus, and Mitigation and Real Estate Excise Taxes.
SOUTHEAST BOULEVARD FROM 29th AVENUE TO PERRY STREET
The project to rehabilitate Southeast Blvd. from 29th Ave. to Perry St. is progressing. The project includes a full-depth curb-to-curb rehabilitation of Southeast Blvd. from 29th Ave. to Perry St. including replacing water distribution mains. The first layer of asphalt has been laid between 29th Ave. and Rockwood Blvd. Though minor construction continues between 29th Ave. and Rockwood Blvd., major construction work has moved north to the section between Rockwood Blvd. and Perry St. Southeast Blvd. from 29th Ave. to Rockwood Blvd. remains closed to traffic except those accessing property along the project. Motorists are detoured onto 17th Ave. to Ray St. to 29th Ave.
The $1.9 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond and Water Department.
RESIDENTIAL PROJECT, INCLUDING ALTAMONT BOULEVARD FROM 11th TO NINTH AVENUES
A residential project to rehabilitate a number of streets in Southeast Spokane is progressing. The project includes some full-depth curb-to-curb rehabilitation as well as resurfacing the top layer of asphalt in some areas. Streets include Altamont Blvd. from 11th to Ninth avenues; Cook St. from Altamont Blvd. to 14th Ave.; Woodfern St. at Altamont Blvd.; and Ninth Ave. from Altamont Blvd. to Jaques St. These streets are closed with local access only.
The nearly $800,000 project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond.
RESIDENTIAL PROJECT, INCLUDING MONTGOMERY AVENUE FROM ASTOR TO HAMILTON STREETS
A residential project to rehabilitate a number of streets in Northeast Spokane is progressing. The project includes some full-depth curb-to-curb rehabilitation as well as resurfacing the top layer of asphalt in some areas. Streets include Montgomery Ave. from Astor to Hamilton streets; Illinois Ave. from Dakota to Hamilton streets; Ermina Ave. from Astor to Columbus streets; Baldwin Ave. from Astor to Perry streets; Addison, Standard, Dakota and Cincinnati streets from Indiana to Montgomery avenues. Montgomery Ave. from Astor to Dakota streets is closed to traffic with local access only.
The $1.3 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond.
BUCKEYE AND GRACE AVENUES FROM RUBY STREET TO UPRIVER DRIVE WATER MAIN & REHABILITATION
The project to replace a water main in Northeast Spokane is progressing. The project will replace the existing 24-inch water main with a 30-inch main, rehabilitate the following streets: Jackson Ave. from Ruby to Astor streets and Grace Ave. from Julia to Myrtle streets, and install curbs and sidewalks on Jackson Ave. from Astor to Standard streets. Grace and Buckeye avenues from Ralph St. to Upriver Dr. are closed to traffic with local access only. Jackson and Buckeye avenues from Ruby to Regal streets have reopened to traffic.
The $3.2 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond, Community Development, and the City’s Water Department.
WESTSIDE TRANSMISSION MAIN
The project to install a water main in West Spokane is progressing. The project will install approximately three miles of 36-inch water main from the West Drive Booster station to the Highway 2/Spotted Road intersection. Deska Dr. from Assembly St. to Sunset Hwy. is closed to traffic; and Sunset Hwy. from Deska Dr. to Grove Rd. is reduced to one lane for motorists traveling westbound.
The $3.7 million project is being funded by the City Water Department.
