Electric Cars- Maybe Not The Wave Of The Future

In response to my thread about the new electric cars that will be available soon, blogger 'Canada Guy' suggested
this article that says going to all electric cars is neither feasible, nor possibly beneficial to the environment.

Interesting reading. Let me know what you think.

I have a real problem with electric cars. We live in an area that gets cold in the winter, so how do you heat an electric car? Gasoline cars use waste heat to heat the car, but batteries are very inefficient in cold weather and to use the batteries to heat the car would severely limit the mileage an electric car could go before it needs to be recharged. Have you ever rode in a car in the winter that the heater was not working?

Oh have I ever ridden in a car with no heat. I think I've blogged about this before, but the car I used to drive when working for the City of Spokane was a retired Crown Vic police car with no heat or defrost. In the winter I would scrape the windows- outside AND inside.

Besides the problem of having to recharge the battery often in the winter, I've heard that batteries for electric cars are extremely expensive, another reason why electrics may not fit the budget for every person, besides the price to buy the car in the first place.
