How Many Electric Cars Are In Your County?

How does Spokane rank among Washington State counties for number of registered electric cars? According to the website pluginolympia.com, we have the fourth largest amount of electric cars in the state. Here's the top four, although the last count was taken in August so numbers could have changed with the Cash For Clunkers Program and all:

King County- 465
Snohomish County- 126
Thurston County- 46
Spokane County- 44

The counties with the least number of electric cars? Lincoln and Wahkiakum with zero each. And statewide, Washington boasts at total of 1103 electric cars.

YEAH! We beat you by a smidge (Thurston.) We are a lot smaller than you, though.

You also have a higher median family income- by almost $10,000. Spokane County's is 37,308 and Thurston County's is $46,975. Probably because you have all those government jobs over there with Olympia being in your county and all. Us poor folk can't afford electric cars.

True... But (there's always a but:)) the cost of living index in Spokane is 91 and Olympia is 105.

What I always wonder is how much more will electricity rates be if we are replacing gas consumption with electricity, assuming these are plug-in vehicles. About 30 miles South of Oly is the largest coal burning electrical power plant in our state. I'm not sure if we have the resources to power everyone in electric cars. Now if scientists could somehow harness the power of the tides to generate electricity without harming sea life, maybe we could do that.

I say, fat cell powered personal vehicles (otherwise known as bicycles) are the best way. ;)

They say the same thing about biofuel cars; people are being pushed to convert, but if even a fraction of the population did, there wouldn't be enough corn in the world to fuel those cars, let alone feed us as well. As for making electricity, I fully expect to come to work one day and find a set of pedals under my desk that I'm expected to pedal all day to produce enough energy to power my computer.

You know how some offices adjust desks higher so workers can stand and work? Well, I wouldn't want to give your boss any ideas... but if I can't somehow find a way to do some speed boating next summer, I may have to send him this link with a picture of you photoshopped onto it.
