Remember as kids when you used to hear people talk about an earthquake knocking California completely off the map and into the ocean? And then when Washington started having its' own little earthquakes, there was talk that the same may happen to the west side of the state some day.
Well, the Washington State Department of Transportation isn't too worried about Seattle falling off the map, but they are concerned about what would happen to the Alaskan Way Viadcut on Seattle's waterfront if 'the big one' ever struck. SRTC is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Spokane County. Urbanized areas with populations exceeding 50,000 people are required to have an MPO. SRTC was formed to address the county's transportation planning needs.
