Driver In Fatal Accident Accused of Updating Facebook While Driving

Here's an extreme version of why you shouldn't text, or do anything with your phone, while driving: the family of a pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle is suing the driver, claiming she was updating her Facebook page on a cell phone when the crash happened.

CBS Chicago has the story.

That's really bad. I cannot say that I NEVER text while driving, even though it's really, really dangerous to do so. Nothing is that important that it cannot wait. Maybe she was posting a picture of her Valentine on her facebook page.

Or updating her status to 'single.' Seriously, I remember when we used to laugh at people who were adjusting the radio and smoking, all while driving with their knees. While those activities are distracting enough, they seem kind of mundane is this day of electronic gadgets. I did see a classic case of bad judgement while driving the other day though; some guy was eating what appeared to be either a bowl of soup or cereal WHILE DRIVING! That's why I ride the bus- I can do whatever I want- including sleep- while getting where I'm going.
